Sharon Ransford
Sharon Ransford is a ceramic artist living on Maui. Her studio, Hale Kai Pottery, is in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii.
Her artistic journey began with batik, paintings on silk, displayed at the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach from 1971-1978. Sharon moved to Maui in 2001 where she began her passion for ceramics.
The elements of everyday life on Maui are captured in Sharon's work. She speaks of clay as ageless and its rich history. "Above all, clay is forgiving." Experimentation with contemporary ceramic art is what draws her everyday to create unique art.
She was juried into Art Maui 2005, Malama Wao Akua'O Maui Hikina exhibit, and received a Merit Award for 2004 National League for Innovation Art Competition.
Sharon has studied under numerous ceramic artists. Randy Johnston, Reid Ozaki, Steven Freedman, and Maui's own, Jennifer Owen are a few. Her work is hand-built and wheel thrown using a variety of decorating techniques.
